Many families in the U.S. have multiple vehicles, so it's possible that you may come to a point where you have a car that you never use. Maybe it has stopped working, maybe its paint is peeling so badly that you're ashamed to drive it around, or maybe you simply have more vehicles than you do family members.
At this point, you may have considered donating your car to advance a charitable cause. If you have, America's Car Donation Center can help you do that. You can either go to their website and fill out their car donation form or call their toll-free number and make an appointment. They can then send a licensed professional to tow your vehicle away to support the charity of your choice, usually within two or three days.
It's called America's Car Donation Center, but they also accept some boats, RVs, trailers, snowmobiles, jet-skis and motorcycles, whether they're running or not. If there are any questions about whether your vehicle will be accepted, they encourage you to call. Though they want you to include the keys and title with your donation, there are many cases in which they can accept your donation even if you don't have those items. They pick up vehicles in all 50 states, so residents of Alaska and Hawaii need not worry about being rejected.
Donations made to IRS-verified charities are tax-deductible, and every charity listed on America's Car Donation website is verified. That said, if you have an unusual tax situation, you should still check with a tax professional to see if you are eligible for tax benefits from this donation. Generally, the tax deduction is either for the market value of the vehicle up to $500, or for the resale price if the resale price exceeds $500. In the latter case, America's Car Donation Center will send you a completed form (1098-C) with the resale price for tax purposes.
